Blog for Friday 18th October 2024

In English lessons, Year 1 have been reading their focus book, ‘Knuffle Bunny’ which is set in New York. The book features a favourite soft toy. In class, each child spoke to their talking partner about their own special toy. They were then challenged to speak to the class and describe their partner’s toy. This speaking activity helped them to write descriptions of their own toy and use the conjunction, ‘and’ to link their ideas.

The Year 1 science topic ‘Ourselves’ has moved on to the senses. This week, the children took part in a listening walk in the school grounds. Before they went outside, they predicted what they might hear. They discovered that quieter sounds like birdsong were difficult to hear but a barking dog was much easier.

Mrs Corlett’s P.E. lessons this half term have focussed on ball control. The children have practised rolling a ball, underarm throwing, sending and receiving a bounced ball. Next half term, the children will be doing gymnastics lessons on a Tuesday morning and they will continue with outdoor P.E. on Wednesday afternoon.

R.E. lessons have been focussed on the meaning of ‘Harvest’ and how Christians celebrate at this time of year. The children are looking forward to performing at the Harvest Festival on Thursday 24th October.
