With their Victoriana topic soon coming to an end, Year 6 have demonstrated understanding of their learning this term in a number of creative ways, through hexagonal thinking and thought-provoking statements. The ‘Big’ questions that have driven the topic have been explored: ‘What is evolution, and how does it help survival?’ and ‘Victorian Britain: Dark Era or Golden Age?’. Why not discuss these with your child at home?
A range of decimal calculations have appeared within class as of late, with children demonstrating their fluency through the use of Gattegno and Place Value charts alongside formal approaches. Remembering the decimal point is a MUST!
The children’s stamina and endurance are going from strength to strength as a result of our weekly cross-country sessions at Richmond Park, where each lap of the course is completed with a sense of determination and a smile of accomplishment.
The class learned some important lessons about personal safety when they took part in the Junior Citizen Event. During the session, which was held at Chessington World of Adventures, the children were engaged in fun, interactive 'sets', where participating organisations helped them to develop their skills in managing risk and making decisions about important day-to-day scenarios.
