Year 3 have come on in leaps and bounds in their maths recently. The children have been leaping and bounding across the playground and then precisely measuring each leap in metres and centimetres. Comparisons were made as well as calculations completed to determine the difference between different leaps and then the sum of their list of measurements. This week addition and measurement skills are being used to calculate the perimeter of various areas and objects in the classroom as well as outside on the playground.
With some warmer Spring weather and the odd glimpse of sunshine, Year 3 have enjoyed taking their learning outdoors in their maths as well as reading. Last week children found spots on the trim trail to get lost in a book.
In outdoor PE hockey skills are being developed through ball control drills and passing practice. These skills will be very useful for the mini games in a few weeks time.
Back in the classroom, investigations of magnetic materials and the strength of various magnets has continued in science. The children were surprised to discover that not all metals are magnetic.
Year 3 are looking forward to investigating some maths in Richmond Park next week.
