What a year the children in Year 5 have had! The start of their journey in upper Key Stage 2 has been a very successful one filled with lots of learning and fun.
At the beginning of the year, the children enjoyed a residential trip to Hindleap Warren as part of their Explorers topic. Through the exciting range of outdoor adventurous activities including; high ropes, climbing towers, team building, obstacle courses, bushcraft and forest adventures, the children developed an array of different skills. They worked as a team, shared lots of laughs and made some very special memories.
In line with their Space topic in Science, the children took part in a workshop in a huge dome that was set up in the hall. During the workshop, they learnt about the planets, star constellations and a brief history of space travel.
In the spring term, the children finished off their Tudor topic with a themed day where they made Tudor houses, played related games and other activities whilst dressed up in costumes.
To introduce the topic of ‘Amazing Africa’, the children took part in an engaging African dance and mask making workshop. They learnt about the significance of masks and dance in African culture and showed great enthusiasm, rhythm and unison when performing.
To support their learning in art, Year 5 enjoyed a trip to the Stanley Picker gallery where they created some very detailed collages. In their final term, the children really enjoyed taking part in the KS2 production and worked tirelessly to learn and perfect their dance.
I am extremely proud of all the children have achieved this year and I hope they have a restful summer.
