On Thursday 17th, we took a 65 bus to Kew Gardens. Here we became ‘Plant Scientists’ investigating plant parts under a microscope, we saw the world’s largest seed and completed some observational drawings. We even had some extra time to play in the adventure playground. We made a flower map of our journey by collecting fallen flowers along the way. When we got back to school the next day, we wrote a recount of our time at Kew Gardens. We used time adverbials, first person and the past tense.
To continue with the theme of Kew Gardens, we created our very own plants for a fictional Greenhouse. Some plants invented were the dragon fire plant, grown in the ashes of a phoenix, as well as a giant’s plant that grows as tall as a double decker bus. We then made our greenhouse, labelling our cups with the name and a drawing of our plant.
We have been consolidating our learning in maths by completing an end of year quiz, revising adding and subtracting fractions, as well as the column addition and subtraction method.
Using chalk and a compass, we coloured in our shadows in the playground and did this a few times at different points of the day to observe how our shadow changed.
