Blog for Friday 4^th October 2024

After our fun and exciting week at Hindleap Warren, we have continued to build on our learning in Geography by looking back at our work on maps, revisiting grid references and reflecting on our time away.

In English, the children have been recapping The Last Wild and starting to look at newspapers - their features and tone of writing. The children have also been learning the rules of direct speech so that they can add quotes to their newspaper writing next week.

In Maths, the children have finished their Place Value topic with rounding numbers to 10,100,1000 and beyond! They will move onto methods for addition and subtraction next week.

We continued with our Science topic this week by learning about the properties that different materials have and then testing a range of materials to see what properties they have. The children then thought about how the properties that the materials have are useful in relation to the purpose of an object e.g. a saucepan made out of cardboard would not work as cardboard is flexible and flammable whereas the metal used in saucepans, both conducts heat and is hard.

On Monday, the children started learning the basics of Sportshall Athletics with everyone giving the speed bounce their best effort and we focussed on continuing to improve passing and movement in our Hockey lesson.
