Blog for Friday 22nd November 2024
Over the past few weeks we have been looking at autumnal poetry, we created our own shape poem in the format of a leaf which included similes, personification and metaphors. With the changing of weather, we have now moved away from writing about autumn and have looked at the 'Magic Box' poem by Kit Wright. We looked at the use of repetition and free verse poetry. Some of the alliteration that we included in our poems are as follows; ‘slimy slippery swamp, fantastic fiery fast flares’. We even used some personification like; ‘leaves that dance to the beat of the whistling wind, jumping popcorn’. Similes included; ‘cats as lazy as leaves’.
When approaching a word problem in Maths, the children have been making sure to read the problem slowly and carefully, before highlighting any key information. We have also begun learning our 8 times tables and have identified similarities between the 4s and 8s.
In Science we have been making the layers of soil using edible ingredients, for the bedrock a biscuit was used, for parent material we used chocolate chips, for the subsoil we used chocolate pudding and for the top soil we used desecrated coconut and gummy worms sticking out.
We are now looking at the Iron Age in our Stone to Iron Age topic and are comparing the difference between life in each period. This week we have focused on the changing of jewellery from Stone to Iron Age. People have worn jewellery for thousands of years. We don’t know why people first started to adorn themselves with jewellery. It might have denoted status or people might just have enjoyed wearing it!
