Hindleap Warren '17
Year 5 pupils have the opportunity to visit Hindleap Warren in East Sussex in the autumn term. The week is full of challenging and exciting activities, including climbing, shelter building, archery and lots more. Everyone comes back with stories of significant achievement.
Below are the daily blogs of the trip.
Monday
The children and staff left St Luke's this morning for the start of their residential trip to Hindleap Warren. All the children were very keen to get away, looking forward to the many activities they will be experiencing at HLW.
The children arrived safely (via Hindhead!) and have begun the job of making their beds. This could take a while according to staff! Children enjoyed their first activities including archery and climbing. The instructors were extremely impressed at the level of climbing abilities!
Tuesday
The children (and staff) slept really well last night, which might have something to do with the night walk from the previous evening. They discovered lots of interesting sights whilst out and about, including the witch's tree.
They have woken up to clear skies and sunny weather this morning and they are looking forward to today's activities which include an obstacle course (which will be rather tricky to complete), team exercises, zip wire, more climbing and then a dip in the pool for a swim before bed!
Wednesday
The children really enjoyed their swim last night, having fun in the newly refurbished swimming pool. It was harder to be on time for breakfast this morning as some of the children were tired from their physical exertions over the past few days.
Mrs Russell has arrived this morning (in time for hash browns apparently!) and will remain with the children for the rest of the week. Mr Bates will be returning this afternoon. The children have lots of exciting activities today including team challenges, canoeing in the pool and high adventure. They are also looking forward to tonight's talent show.
Thursday
The Talent Show last night was another brilliant evening of entertainment, with all children and staff enjoying the various acts. The evening was preceded by a range of activities such as team challenges, canoeing and high adventure. The high adventure included the leap of faith and the 'see-saw', which sounds easy but was very challenging being so high up. However, the children (and some very brave staff) managed to conquer any fears to complete the challenges.
Today the children are continuing with several activities in their groups (including the forest walk and orienteering) before undertaking the greatest challenge of the week – packing their suitcases tonight! It will be an early night tonight, ready to return tomorrow morning. Arrival time is estimated at 11.00am.
Friday
Children said their sad farewells to Hindleap Warren in the morning and began their journey back to school. The arrival time is now 11.15am following a later than expected departure.
