Year 1 had the opportunity to take part in the recent singing festival at The Rose Theatre. The children were absolutely amazing. Many of the songs were performed with other schools and included lots of body percussion and complex timings. Year 1’s focus and enthusiasm shone through in all the singing. They were in fact the youngest children to take part and we are very proud of all of them.
At the KS1 sports day, the children were able to showcase the athletic skills they had learned in PE lessons. They enjoyed all the activities including javelin, hurdles and the sack race. They showed great team spirit and supported each other, especially in the obstacle race. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support the children.
On 22nd June, Year 1 learned about the significance of HMT Empire Windrush which is remembered for bringing one of the first groups of West Indian immigrants to the UK. In class, they read the book Coming to England by Floellla Benjamin which gives further insight into the challenges a family faced when settling into a life in London.
