Blog for Friday 15th November 2024

It was great to welcome the children back to school last week. As always, this half of term promises to be filled to the brim with excitement!

The week began with the children finding out about the highly anticipated KS1 Production. The children were allocated their roles and have already started learning song lyrics. Much of the focus over the next few weeks will be rehearsing for our show. Please keep supporting your child at home with learning their lines.

In line with the wintery theme, our current book in English is ‘The Emperor’s Egg’ by Martin Jenkins. This non-fiction book tells the story of the early life of an Emperor Penguin chick. The children produced fantastic comic strips to explain each stage of the chick’s first few days on the snow. They were particularly fascinated (and mildly disgusted!) when learning how a penguin chick get fed by its mum and dad…through regurgitation!

Mapping continues to be the focus of geography lessons. Last week, the children used directional language (north, south, east and west) and wrote brilliant sentences to explain where places were located on treasure maps they created.

In computing, we began our new topic of photography. The children loved using the iPads to take selfies, a photo of a building and an action photo to name a few.

Well done Year 2, you have made an excellent return to school!
