Blog for Friday 4th July 2025
There has been plenty of creativity in Year 1 over the last couple of weeks. The children learned about the American artist Alma Thomas and created their own collages using small pieces of coloured paper; they cut or tore the paper to mirror the shapes Alma Thomas uses in her paintings.
For arts week, the children looked at the symbol of the three fish which represents Kingston and dates back to when the town had three fisheries; the symbol also features on our school badge. After drawing outlines of fish, the children cut out small pieces of paper to create a collage of fish scales.
On Monday morning, the children had a special visitor for their R.E. lesson. Father Martin came to the classroom to speak to the children about St Luke. He told the children why the church was originally named after St Luke and they also found out lots of interesting facts about his life and work.
The children are continuing to enjoy reading for pleasure and extending their phonics skills. After morning drop off, the atlases are very popular to share with a friend. Over the summer holiday, we hope the children continue to experience books and their love of reading.
