Throughout the summer term, the learning in Year 1 has been enriched by many different visitors to our classrooms and trips near and far from our school. Starting with our local visits to Richmond Park and the St Luke’s vicarage garden during Outdoor Learning week, the children identified trees as deciduous or evergreen using our Science skills. There were many lovely sketches and observational drawings of flowering plants created.
In R.E. Year 1 have learnt so much about Sikhism, particularly through the visit to a Sikh place of worship; our local Gurdwara. The children were in awe of the elaborate decorations surrounding the special Holy book; the Guru Granth Sahib.
Throughout our topic of ‘Around the World in 7 weeks’, there have been visitors to take us on journeys to many different countries.
Thank you to all the parents that have come to share their culture, languages, food and songs with both classes. At Alice Holt Forest, the tree identifying continued with some shelter building too.
Our final trip for the year was to Wisley Gardens where the children enjoyed exploring the rock pools, green houses and the straw maze as well as planting our own seeds to bring home.
