High expectations, by all, for all, reflecting the example of Jesus

The Nursery

St Luke's C.E. Primary School offers a stimulating and fun learning environment following the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. We offer part time (15 hours) and full time (30 hours) Nursery places.

We enhance the schools ethos in 'developing children's active minds and bodies' with hands on experiences where they have ongoing opportunities to learn though an outdoor environment.

We believe that young children learn best when they are offered well planned activities in line with their own interest that excite and motivate them. Inviting and meaningful play and learning activities are specifically designed to meet their individual needs. Our Early Years staff work closely with parents to ensure we are best able to capture their child’s interest and ensure positive ongoing home school relationships. Staff work closely with the rest of the school community, regularly meeting with other staff members and the SEND co-ordinator to ensure that early identification of any additional learning needs takes place. Individual children’s progress is assessed on an ongoing basis and is monitored by the Senior Leadership Team. The children and staff develop special books of learning experiences to celebrate individual progress and achievements.

All children in the Foundation Stage are taught according to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum with the areas of learning being:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical development
  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Understanding of the world
  • Expressive Arts and Design

When children first start Nursery they will each have a home visit. They will then have a graduated introduction into school. Transition is a key factor in a child’s education and this is carefully planned across the Nursery and Reception Classes to ensure the children have a smooth transition into each new setting.

We encourage parents and prospective parents to visit the school and to meet with the staff. Please contact the school office to make an appointment should you wish to visit the Foundation Stage. The Nursery has a dedicated page on the website where learning updates and photographs are posted frequently.
