Children can choose whether to take school meals or bring packed lunches. Children bringing packed lunches eat these in the dining hall and are supervised along with those having school meals.
Our healthy and nutritious lunches are cooked using fresh ingredients on our school site by our experienced catering team. Caterlink provide our school lunches and they ensure that all food produced meets the Governmental Nutritional Standards as well as the Food Based Standards.
Caterlink is a well-established company, a subsidiary of WSH who are one of the UK's largest catering contractors. Caterlink provides services for schools in many London boroughs, including Islington, Camden, Sutton and, more recently, Merton.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal as part of the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meal initiative. From September 2023, the Universal Free School Meals scheme has been extended to all state funded primary school children in London boroughs. Children in Years 3-6 at St Luke's are eligible for free school meals for the full 2023/2024 academic year and 2024-2025 academic year.
Free school meals may also be provided for your children if you receive benefits, for example income support or child tax credit.
Eating well is important. Children need to eat well as it will give them energy and nutrients to grow and develop, be healthy and active. A healthy, enjoyable lunch gives children the energy they need to learn and play at school. Please do not include confectionery or sweets in packed lunches.
At any one time we are likely to have a number of children with nut allergies, and for some of them, exposure to nuts can be very dangerous. Therefore, the school promotes no nuts and no sesame seeds. Please ensure the food you provide does not contain nuts or sesame seeds.
Use the information in this leaflet to help make your child a healthier packed lunch.
Our school has introduced a milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils and we would like to invite you to register your child. School milk is free for all under-fives and is subsidised for pupils aged five or older at 22p per day.
Each pupil that registers with Cool Milk will receive a 189ml portion of semi-skimmed milk every day, during morning break time, which is delivered fresh and chilled to the classroom. Their school milk will not only provide them with essential nutrients, but as it is rehydrating and energy boosting it also bridges the gap between breakfast and lunch to help children stay focused.

The school understands that healthy snacks can be an important part of the diet of young people.
In the Early Years, Reception and Years 1 and 2 children are provided with a piece of fruit or vegetable provided by the NHS free fruit and vegetable scheme.
Children in KS2 are able to bring their own healthy snack into school to eat at break-times. Crisps and sweets are not allowed.
The school provides water for all children at lunchtimes. Children are encouraged to bring in their own water bottle which can be re-filled during the day. There are several water fountains in the playground and the school building.
