At St. Luke's, our vision for the art curriculum is to inspire creativity, foster self-expression, and develop a deep appreciation for the visual arts in all students. Through a hands-on, engaging approach, we aim to cultivate confidence in exploring and experimenting with different mediums, techniques, and styles. We aim to nurture a lifelong love of the arts and empower students to see themselves as artists, thinkers, and problem-solvers who can express ideas and emotions in creative ways.
Using a wide variety of materials, children explore different media, including painting, modelling, drawing, sculpture and observational art work. Artists in residence work with the children to develop a greater depth of knowledge. At the end of each Key Stage, children take part in a major end of school production where they can demonstrate their skills in set and costume design.
Subject key concepts are the fundamental ideas and principles that underpin learning within a subject. They help structure a child’s understanding and ensure progression as they move through the curriculum.
